Aluminium gates: How Pedestrian…

The word pedestrian is often used to describe an activity or item that is boring or bland but there’s no need for the pedestrian entrance to your property to be the weak link in either the aesthetics or the security of your home.

Kenilworth pedestrian gate

The gate above is a wide gap Kenilworth style gate, hand fabricated to exact measurements so it’s absolutely perfect for the aperture. Mounted on 50mm ‘cut in’ door jamb posts so no clear gap on the latch or hinge side and the Borg lock latch fits securely into the receiver plate and cannot be pushed in or tampered with. The Borg lock also gives you flexibility for granting access as well as security. There’s no key or power required, opening is via a mechanical coded keypad –  family and friends can have the code to access whenever they please without you having to leave a key out or leave the gate unlocked, and with Borg’s Easicode Pro system it’s only a few seconds to change the code. In this case the door jambs have been mounted on oak posts either side complementing the wooden fence, white plaster and the anthracite bricks.

Curley pedestrian gate

For a more traditional feel something like the Curley side gate above may suit – subtle horns on the top corners combine with the door jamb posts for a stylish and traditional look but with the security and privacy that comes with a fully boarded aluminium gate. Finished of with a traditional black signet mortice style handle and lock set and Comunello Stainless Steel hinges.

Temple style side gate

Or for a more modern property the pictures above show a Temple style side gate with horizontal infills and a flat top giving it a really sharp, clean feel – both pics are the rear of the gate and as you can see this has been fitted with a Locinox auto closing hinge with built-in slow down before it reaches the closed position so it’s never left open but it never slams shut either!  This particular side gate is secured with an electronic External Maglock which is monitored and controlled by their Control 4 home automation system, it can be locked and unlocked on a weekly based timer or operated remotely by the owner as and when required.
